The Director of the St. Louis Taoist Association, Zhong Xu (Tim Bruewer), is hosting Master Yun Xiang Tseng (Chen) for a seminar October 1-3, 2010 in the St. Louis area. Known as “Chen”, Yun Xiang Tseng was trained from the age of six at the sacred Wu Dang Mountain in China . Wu Dang Mountain is legendary for its Tai Chi, Kung Fu, healing traditions and spiritual practices. It is considered the most sacred Taoist mountain and the birthplace of internal martial arts. Master Chen is a 25th generation lineage Quan Zhen Pai (Complete Reality Sect) and a 14th generation lineage Wu Dang San Feng Pai. As an ordained Taoist priest, he is an unusually gifted teacher of this ancient tradition. Chen’s mastery of English and his humorous delivery have made his teaching both accessible and profound. You may register for the seminar at www.wudangtao.com or contact Tim Bruewer via email wudangspirit@yahoo.com or call (314) 775 – 1706 for more information.

Embrace the Tao: Breakthrough for Successful Living

Date: Friday October 1st
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Cost: $15 for SIUE Students (at the door with id), $20 for Non-Students
Location: The Center for Spirituality and Sustainability on the SIUE (Southern University of Illinois-Edwardsville ) Campus

Join Wu Dang Taoist Priest Yun Xiang Tseng (Master Chen) on a journey of self discovery. In Classical Chinese Medicine, emotions are called the “six thieves” because they rob you of your health. Learn real techniques to detach from the world of emotions and stress. Master Chen will instruct participants in how to heal deep seated emotional wounds, life trauma and family stress. These time-tested Taoist philosophies can assist anyone in improving their life, family dynamics, relationships and work environment. Learn to detach from the world of emotions and create a new reality of happiness and joy. Master Chen has a saying, “The beautiful lotus flower blooms from the mud, learn to appreciate the flower and respect the mud.” Meditation techniques may be presented if time allows.

Wu Dang Walking Crane Qi Gong

Date: Saturday October 2nd
Time: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Cost: $140
Location: Creve Coeur (Call for Location)

Walking Crane Qi Gong is a rare internal alchemy practice created by a Taoist priest from Wu Dang Mountain about 500 years ago. It is a series of movements developed to regulate the body, mind and breath. This Qi Gong form is for improving chi flow, opening the meridians, circulating blood and generating internal power. It can help nourish the Three Treasures of life – vitality (jing), energy (qi) and spirit (shen). Master Chen will discuss internal qi movement and cultivation for health applications. The form also helps strengthen the immune system, develop lower leg strength, improver inner balance, transform emotions and develop internal power.

Taiji: Harnessing True Power of Internal Martial Arts

Date: Sunday, October 3rd
Time: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Cost: $130
Location: Creve Coeur (Call for location)

In Taiji practice, the practitioner uses the mind to direct Qi and Qi to direct movement. Motion arises from stillness (Wu Ji); Tai Chi is characterized by smooth flowing dance-like motion united with Qi Gong, concentration of the mind and the practical application of internal Kung Fu. Seeking stillness in motion and practicing with a high degree of concentration balances the inner and outer and the practitioner reaches into the stage of void: man united with heaven.

In this seminar Master Chen will teach you how to harness your internal power and explain the theories and methods behind Taiji applications. Detailed instruction on how to build explosive power (fajing) and applications will be taught. Master Chen will also introduce push hands and the correct theory for practice.

The Nine Dragon Academy would like to thank everyone who attended our Chinese New Year celebration. We came together as a family and enjoyed good weather, good food, and good company. We had a great turn out to the event and everyone enjoyed seeing our Lion Dance Troupe perform and bless our training facility and some great demonstrations from a variety of traditions.

We would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to Guro Joe Craig, Guro Chris Hesse, Guro Tim Rivera, Guro Kevin Cannon and Sensei Matt Stumpf of Apex Training Center for their continued hospitality and great demonstrations of Silat, Harimaw Buno and Kali Escrima, to Ninong Tim Rivera, Guro Dan Berg, Anna Saindon and John of Garimot Arnis Training St. Louis for performing some Moro-Moro with a few different weapons, our very own Jiao Lian Gao Lin for demonstrating some of her Sport Wu Shu, to Le Fujun from Shaolin Chan City for demonstrating Tai Zu Chang Quan from the Song Shan Shaolin Temple tradition and to Da Shi Xiong Kevin Sears, Anton Kuchman, Jiao Lian Jesse Nenninger and Shi Xiong Thomas Johnson for demonstrating a variety of forms from our martial tradition.

We would also like to thank Hot Wok for coming in during their time off to specially prepare the food for our event. The food was delicious and we had more than enough to share with all of our guests.

It was great to have so many martial artists from so many traditions come together to share their passion and talent for the martial arts with us at our Chinese New Year celebration. We were glad to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Metal Tiger with our martial family and to have our facility blessed with a Traditional Lion Dance. The Nine Dragon Academy is ready to tackle the upcoming challenges of the new year and wishes for much prosperity for our school, for the other schools in attendance and for all of our guests, family and friends during the 2010 Year of the Metal Tiger.
